No-Show Rate
The percentage of booked appointments where the client simply does not arrive and does not cancel in time to rebook the slot.
No-show rate is the share of appointments that vanish: the client neither shows up nor gives enough notice to fill the chair. It is distinct from cancellation, where at least you get the slot back. Benchmarks vary by business type, from around 1% at full-service salons to 4% at barbershops, nail studios and med spas for well-run books, but the number balloons without protection. Salons with no deposit system see 15% to 25% no-shows, and separately guests cancel about 8% of appointments on top of that.
The cost is not abstract, it is a paid hour destroyed with no time to resell it, which is why no-shows hit Service Provider Utilization and Revenue Per Stylist directly. The damage scales with ticket size: Zenoti data pegs med spa losses at about $820 a week ($42,640 a year) while a salon loses closer to $132 a week. A single no-show at a high-ticket business can erase a morning's profit.
The proven levers are deposits, confirmations, and waitlists. Businesses that take deposits see a 32% increase in successful appointments, and automated reminders drive 75%+ rebooking rates while cutting no-shows. A no-show prevention flow that combines a card-on-file deposit, timely reminders, and an auto-filling waitlist is the single highest-ROI operations fix most salons can make.
